Chinese dragon
 

It is very typical to find dragon in Chinese Jade. Dragon is a most mythical and most powerful creature in Chinese Mythology. It is the totem for all Chinese.


Dragon is a creature evolving from many animals including pig, cow, horse, bird, rat, snake, turtle, etc. It can also be a compages of several animals. In summary, the Chinese think of dragon as an animal can do everything, can fly into the sky, can drill into the ground, can swim in the sea, can move the mountain, can generate fire, can eject water, can help the poor and penalize the rich, etc. In general, the dragon only does good. Many Chinese use “Wish Son to Be a Dragon” to express their good will to their children’s success.


Dragon had various forms in different times, for example, nowadays, the Chinese think the dragon has a head of horse, horns of deer, claws of eagle, body of snake, tails of Qilin (a mythical creature with Chinese origin), teeth of tiger, and tone of crocodile. Above all, dragon possessed all the special power from all the animals. It Differs from most western view of dragon, the dragon represents the scientific imagination of various times, and it shall be a high-tech robot for the future.

The influence of recognizant adoration of dragon spread to every aspect of old society. In old China, there is a proverb" A dragon giving birth to 9 sons, 9 sons are defferent". Nine sons of the deity dragon has the different character and love. We often see the dragons wuth different gesture on the buildidng had the ancientry style:
(1)Chi Wen : liking far-forth looking, it is usually decorating the ridge of building. In the legend, it would spray weaves and fall rain, so used it to prevent fire.
(2)Pu Lao: liking roaring and music. So It was used to decorating the Big Bell as the button of bell on the top. The top of ancientry musical instrument is used to to decorate.
(3)Bi Xi : Its shape like the tortoise and being good at carring weight things, liking letters and loving went far. So let it to carring stele. Under some archaic stele and was pressing like the animal of tortoise is it.
(4)BI An : Its shape like the tiger and has the powers, so setting it on the door of prison, Used it to bulldoze the crimimal.
(5)Tao Tie: engorging all its life. so people decorating its sculpt on the wares concerned with foods.
(6)Jin Ni : Its shape like lion, liking pyrotechnical , so was decorated it on the censer.
(7)Jiao Tu: Its shape like trumpet shell and mussel. In the legend, it doesn't like someone to trouble it. It is usually good at closing down and protecting itself. People usually decorate it on the gate and guard the gate, used it to tell the stranger not to rush in disorder. Sometimes, decorate it on the stone frustan of their front gate.
(8)Ya Zi : In the legend, its temper fierce and cruel, loving combation and fighting closely, so decorated it on the sword and dagger.
